    Started the club

Not books you enjoyed. Books that moved you off a position you'd genuinely held for years. This is a Chaptra house club — set up and moderated by us to get the conversation going. Open to everyone; jump in anywhere.

  • What changed, exactly?

Follow-up thread for specifics. Not "it opened my eyes" — the actual proposition you'd have defended before and wouldn't now.

  • Has a badly written book ever convinced you anyway?

Tedious, poorly argued, irritating — and right. Does that say something about the argument, or about us?

  • The book you resisted and lost to

You went in to argue with it. It won. What was it?

If you can't name a book that changed your mind, you've been reading to be agreed with

Most reading is confirmation with a bibliography. We pick authors whose conclusions we already share and call the resulting glow "learning". Actual mind-changing is rare, uncomfortable, and usually involves a book you didn't enjoy. So — name one. What did you believe going in, and what do you believe now?
