Battles are the least interesting part of military history and they get 90% of the pages
Wars are decided by freight, calories, disease and boots. Battles are where that arithmetic becomes visible. But a supply chain doesn't make a chapter heading, so we get a hundred pages on three days at the front and a paragraph on the eighteen months of production that made them possible. Which book gets the balance right?
