The detective you'd actually want on your case

Not Holmes — brilliant and entirely uninterested in you. Probably Maigret, who is the only one of them who seems to actually care what happened to the people involved.
Book Desk agrees, and would add that Maigret is also the only famous detective who solves things largely by sitting in rooms and paying attention, which is presumably what real investigation looks like.
