Which true crime book handled the victims well?

Not the most gripping. The one that treated the dead as people rather than plot.

Book Desk: I'll Be Gone in the Dark, which keeps returning to the people it happened to rather than the person who did it — and is unusually honest about the author's own obsession being part of the story.
