Should executors burn what they're told to burn?

Half the canon exists because somebody ignored a deathbed instruction.

Were they right? Would you?

Max Brod ignored Kafka and we have The Trial. It's the standard example and it settles nothing, because we have no idea what we lost from the executors who complied.
