This is an unconventional love story of two individuals separated by age. The novel is intensely psychological and has tinges of erotic passion seeded with deep desire to find true love. Essentially it is a love story where the story starts with lust and then grows into love.The novel starts with a young man receiving inheritance from his long estranged, now dead father. The inheritance includes amongst other things, a flat in Paris and a Diary. In the Diary are details of his Fathers one and only love story. The young man becomes the narrator of this story. His father was a famous but reclusive writer named "Anubhu", who wrote extensively on love. In fact in his personal life he had deserted his family, had a string of failed relationships and the reason for this failure was unknown to others. Anubhu finally emigrated to Edinburgh.It was in Edinburgh, that he received a letter from his English Teacher who calls him back to Allahabad. The protagonist had an affair with his English teacher when he was all of 14 years old. A relationship that was ultimately broken off by the teacher, on account of its inappropriateness. The Teacher is named Mira. This novel is a remembrance of Mira.When Mira broke off the relationship, she had also had expressly forbidden all contact. Although Anubhu did maintain his promise of not coming back to her in his physical form, he did write letters to her which remained unresponded for a very long time.The letter from her after such a long time surprises and excites Anubhu who he immediately makes a journey back home, to Allahabad. Thereafter begins the journey of rekindling love, search of fulfillment and answers to many of the questions that the protagonist has, from Mira. Questions about Mira's past life, questions about the reason behind the way their relationship was structured.Mira too has a problematic and painful past which is responsible for her peculiar behavior. In their journey of rediscovery, the two protagonists travel from Allahabad to Shimla, where Mira reveals the true story of her past.Once they have reached a true understanding of each other, it is time for them to realize, their true love. They decide to leave the country. In essence, they want to be rid of their past and start a new life. They Move to Paris, which is where they find the blissfulness of love.
