Why Rereading Helps You Understand More
UnderstandingRereading
The first reading shows you the surface. The second reading shows you the structure. You begin to notice patterns, repeated ideas, and hidden links between chapters.
Rereading is especially useful for difficult nonfiction and thoughtful novels. You already know the basic path, so your attention becomes deeper and calmer.
Try rereading with one question in mind. What is the main claim? What changed in the character? A focused question gives your second reading a clear purpose.
Mark only the strongest parts on the second pass. Too many highlights create noise. A few clear notes create insight.
You do not need to reread every book. Save it for books that teach you, challenge you, or stay in your head after you finish.
